If you're a beginning electronics hobbyist a good way to increase your skills and make a DIY gift for someone you care about.
Electronics weblog PyroElectro shares a project where user Chris created a circuit board "birthday card" for his grandmother's upcoming 91st birthday. He made his own circuit board with the greeting message printed directly on the board, adding colored LEDs in an appropriate shape, and configuring the circuit so that several light patterns are used.
See the source link below for exhaustive parts lists, schematics, instructions, and photos. No matter the time of year you could riff off this idea to make a basic pumpkin, holiday tree, egg, shamrock, cake, or other appropriate image. Not every grandma will want a raw circuit board with a message on it but I'm sure just about every new electronics hobbyist knows someone who would appreciate this kind of gift. Also check out a similar touch-activated pulsating Valentine project we covered six years ago.
