The Tom Joyner Foundation, the Dillard University National Alumni Association and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. have joined forces to help raise money for New Orleans HBCU.
In honor of the Centennial and National President, Cynthia Butler-McIntyre, a Dillard alumna, Dillard University National Alumni will be distributing collection envelopes for sorority members to make contributions to Dillard as part of the Delta?s annual conference in Washington, D.C. that is taking place July 11 to July 17th.
All members of the sorority, which has more than 200,000 members, are encouraged to make a donation of $19.13 at www.tomjoynerfoundation.org.? All funds raised will go to scholarships to deserving students, and 100% will go directly to Dillard.
?It?s time for all of us to come together to support our scholars at HBCUs,? said Thomas Joyner, Jr., President and CEO, of the Tom Joyner Foundation.? ?I?m grateful to the Deltas for working with us to honor one of their own and to help so many others.?
Butler-McIntyre, National President of Delta Sigma Theta Inc., said in an interview on the Tom Joyner Morning Show, that she?s glad to help raise money for her alma mater.
?I?m actually a legacy of Dillard University,? Butler-McIntyre said. ?My mom was a graduate of 1938?Well, I was doubly excited when I found out that not only my school was the School of the Month, but to be SOTM in the month of July while I would be assembling my sisters from across the globe at our 51st national convention. I call that divine intervention for it to happen at the same time so that I would be able to ask the sisters of Delta Sigma Theta to join me in support of my alma mater and to make a difference as we continue our support of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. ? I need you to show your support for my alma mater to make a donation.?
Dillard is the Tom Joyner Foundation?s School of the Month for July.? Throughout the month, the Foundation is working closely with Dillard to encourage, alumni, friends and supporters of HBCUs to help raise money to help students complete their college education. One of the main reasons students are unable to graduate is that they do not have enough funds to pay for tuition, books and other fees.
