FORT WAYNE, Indiana ? Handbag and luggage maker Vera Bradley Inc. plans to expand its design and distribution centers near Fort Wayne and plans to add up to 128 new jobs over the next four years.

The company announced Friday it plans to invest about $26.6 million to expand both its 40,000 square-foot design center by 149,000 square feet and its 420,000 square foot distribution center in Roanoke, 14 miles southwest of Fort Wayne, by 10,000 square feet.

The Journal Gazette reports the Indiana Economic Development Corp. has offered the company up to $1.75 million in conditional tax credits. The tax credits are performance-based, meaning the company is not eligible to claim incentives until people are hired.

The company announced a $22.5 million expansion for its distribution center two years ago, adding 124 jobs.
