The U.S. marshal's office released new details about Christopher Dorner's supposed whereabouts, stating that there is "probable cause" Dorner fled to Mexico, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Recently released documents filed in the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles say that authorities responded to a tip from a boat captain in San Diego who reportedly saw a man resembling Dorner.

Detective Robert Anschick of the San Diego Police Department later found Dorner's personal belongings, including his wallet and identification cards near the U.S. Mexico border.

The federal documents also indicate Dorner may have had an accomplice known only as "J.Y.," and that the United States Marshal Service has been tracking this individual for the past few days.

The dragnet for Dorner has been extended to the Mexican border as the Border Patrol carefully inspects people trying to cross into Mexico.

ABC News reports that the extended manhunt is creating more congestion and longer lines at the San Diego-Tijuana border crossing as law enforcement shift their attention from Big Bear Mountain, where Dorner's burned truck was found last week, to parts of Los Angeles and now Mexico.

The search for Dorner expanded as the former L.A. Police Department cop was formally charged by the Riverside DA for murdering a Riverside police officer.

Dorner could face the death penalty if captured and convicted.

The Border Patrol said they were heightening their checks of vehicles and pedestrians passing south into Mexico
.
"Customs and Border Protection officers and agents from the Office of Field Operations, the U.S. Border Patrol and the Office of Air and Marine are providing assistance in the search as requested from law enforcement authorities," a statement from the Border Patrol said. An official with the agency said the request was part of the search for Dorner.

Local, state and federal authorities have been responding to hundreds of Dorner tips and sightings. There were about 600 reported just today. Once call? led officers to a sighting in Northridge and another found authorities surrounding Lowe?s Home Improvement Store in San Fernando Valley, CA.

Though he remains at large, authorities still believe Dorner is hiding out near Big Bear Mountain. The court documents show that a family member of Dorner's presumed accomplice, J.Y., owns a house in Arrow Bear, near Big Bear Mountain.

The marshal said investigators with the Marine Corps and San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department were conducting a surveillance operation of the property.

Despite the overwhelming costs and extra personnel, the Los Angeles Police Department has no plans to lessen the search until Dorner is in custody, according to L.A. police Sgt. Rudy Lopez.
